Four local golf pros in the money

BEAUMONT - Big Canyon Country Club head golf professional Kelly
Manos shot 2-over-par 74 in the third and final round Wednesday in the
76th Southern California PGA section championship at the SCPGA Golf Club
at Beaumont.
Manos, the highest local finisher, shot 73-73-74 for a 220 total and
$810 paycheck, finishing 11 strokes off the winning pace of Jeff Cranford
(La Quinta), who won $7,800. There were 128 pros in the field. Manos, won
the SCPGA section title in 1996, ended tied for 15th.
Costa Mesa resident Tim Walsh, representing Whispering Lakes Golf
Club, also shot 220 (69-77-74) and earned $810, while Mesa Verde Country
Club head pro Tom Sargent carded a 224 (77-71-76) and pocketed $422.
Boris King of Santa Ana Heights, representing Pelican Hill Golf Club,
shot 234 (75-78-81) for $300.
Local pros John Hartman (Costa Mesa) and Tom Schauppner (Newport
Beach) did not make the cut after shooting 158 and 169, respectively, in
two rounds.
