They might not have enough space to take in an entire family, but
they’ll certainly make a great playground for the kids in the backyard.
On Saturday, HomeAid Orange County, a nonprofit organization dedicated
to building and renovating homeless shelters, will kick off its ninth
annual Project Playhouse event at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
Over a one-month span, 14 tiny homes ranging from French country
cottages to beach shacks will rise at Fashion Island. The playhouses were
constructed by home builders and donated to the organization.
Last year’s event raised almost $350,000, said Julia Ung, HomeAid’s
administrative manager.
Those interested in inspecting the houses in detail can do so Saturday
afternoon for a $15 donation. While playhouse village tours will be
available on weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Oct. 21 for a $5
donation, visitors won’t be allowed to enter the miniature buildings in
an effort to avoid wear and tear.
The playhouses will go to the highest bidders at an auction beginning
at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21. One of the playhouses will be given away in a
drawing. Tickets for the drawing are $1.
Tickets for all events can be purchased at HomeAid Orange County and
at the concierge desk at Fashion Island for $25 in advance or $35 at the
door. Tickets for children under 12 are $15 and kids 3 and under are
free. The price includes dinner.
