Newport Harbor’s boys water polo team wins its first two games of the

Millikan Tournament. The Sailors bomb Buena Park, 17-2, behind five goals

from Cole Lunde. Graham Harvey makes eight saves to lead Newport to a 7-2

victory over Punahou of Hawaii.

Costa Mesa’s boys water polo team also wins its first two Millikan

Tournament games. It defeats Mira Costa, 13-5, behind James Comfort’s

four goals. The Mustangs then beat Riverside Poly, 13-5, as Rob Grayeli

scores five.

Costa Mesa’s girls tennis team wins its first match, 10-8, over

Saddleback. Kristin Chisholm and Phuong Tran sweep in singles for the

Mustangs.

Ten years ago

Newport Harbor’s football team defeats Ocean View, 20-6. Tars’

quarterback Steve Walker throws 14 completions for 175 yards. Ten of his

completions go to George Greenwalt for 135 yards. Russell Olshefski

rushes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Marina scores a late touchdown to defeat CdM’s football team, 9-7.

Todd Kehrli’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Dave Olsen is the Sea Kings’ only

score.

The Orange Coast College football team blows out No. 14 Long Beach

City College, 30-0. Mike Wade kicks three field goals for OCC and Greg

Angelovic leads the Pirates by completing 10 passes for 102 yards and a

touchdown.

CdM’s girls volleyball team sweeps Irvine, 15-4, 15-2, 15-8. Stacey

Petersen gets seven kills for CdM and Prentice Perkins has 16 assists.

Led by Heather Love, Costa Mesa’s girls volleyball team easily beats

Santiago, 15-3, 15-5, 15-9.

CdM’s boys water polo team hammers Foothill, 19-7. Ted Simpkins and

Brent O’Brien score five each to lead the Sea Kings.
