Drum it up this weekend with Repercussion Unit, featuring a plethora
of percussion instruments from around the world, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at
the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa

SUNDAY
Go to the wild West with Canadian playwright David Freeman’s “Jesse
and the Bandit Queen” at 2 and 7 p.m. The play is a sweeping saga of
outlaws and lovers. Performances are at 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 and 7 p.m.
Sundays through Sept. 24. It will bestaged at Orange Coast College’s
Drama Lab Studio, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. $5 in advance, $6 at

MONDAY
Take a break from your Monday back and work and soak in some
watercolors. The Jewish Community Center presents an art gallery show
through Nov. 3 featuring the watercolors of artist Judy Chabler at the
center’s Jewish Federation Campus, 250 E. Baker St., Costa Mesa. Showing

TUESDAY
What’s the next best thing to a dog? A picture of a dog. Newport Beach
artist Carole Akins will display her paintings of dogs, a frequent
subject of her work, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 6 at the Carole
Akins Studio, 418 31st St., Newport Beach. A portion of the proceeds from
sales at the show will go to Canine Companions for Independence, a
nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities with trained

WEDNESDAY
Gain all-access entry into Orange Coast College’s Lisa Bloomfield’s
mind and skills. The art instructor’s digital prints will be on display
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Sept. 26 in the
