NMJAAF: Midget Seahawks blank Southgate
NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Midget (ages
12-14) Seahawks opened the 2000 season with a 35-0 win over the Southgate
Rams last Saturday.
Spencer Link scored three touchdowns thanks to the solid offensive
line of Zack Wisengrat, Tim Prairie, Tim Bassler, Chris Taylor, Efrain
Castro and Avery Fenton.
Link was also tough on defense, intercepting two passes and running
one back 80 yards for a touchdown.
Tight ends and receivers Greg Minor, Taylor Young, Austin Brawner and
Grant Casserly also came through with key catches and blocks.
Fullback Kyle Woody scored a touchdown, while quarterback Wes Presson
led the team to numerous scoring opportunities.
On defense, Vince Mizurek, Matt Graham, Miles Herrera, Armand Lapuz,
Chris Reilly, Chris Hernandez and Robert Richie each preserved the
shutout with numerous big plays.
In other NMJAAF action:
Jr. Midget Seahawks 22, Orange Chiefs 22 - The Seahawks (ages 11-13)
were led by quarterback Casey Peters, who was 7 of 14 for 122 yards and
two touchdowns and rushed for another touchdown.
Matt Silva led the receivers with four catches, while Ryan Lance
scored on a 50-yard fly pattern.
Running back Shaun Mohler rushed for 35 yards on 12 carries and the
offensive line of Eric Ray, Brent Ogden, Brett Vosseller, Sean Goodman,
Pat Hill and Steven Hancock played tough.
The defense was led by Bijan Ahmadi, Trevor Theriot, James Coder,
Anthony Santos, Ricky Sepulveda, Patrick Williams, Matt Erickson David
Del Fonte and Delano and Damian McKenzie.
Pee Wee (ages 10-12) Seahawks 35, Tricities Steelers 7 - Michael
Orozco rushed for three touchdowns, while John Angelo scored two TDs to
lead Newport-Mesa.
The offensive line was led by Bryce Jardine, Michael Aspegren and
Richie Sorensen, while the defensive line was anchored by Matt Lutton,
Louis Truxton and Ryan Dalton.
Making several key tackles were Brett Crowley, Matt Raiger and Matt
Burgner.
Junior Pee Wee (ages 9-11) Seahawks 12, Irvine Chargers 3 - Carlo
Valdes and Jacob Gildart each scored touchdowns to spark the Seahawks’
offense.
The strong Seahawks defense was led by Jaime McGee, who picked off two
passes. Taylor Sepulveda had one interception.
Other strong defensive displays came from Brice Stillman, Brandon
Davis, Garrett Amoroso and Corbin McNutt..
The defensive line was led by Isaac Abrego, Kevin Dearen, Nick Reese,
Colin Wigely, Sean Berkley, Travis Prickett, Troy Hall and Danny Malycky,
while William O’Brien and Erik Rask led the linebackers.
The offensive line, led by P.J. Simpson, Justin Elbourn, Jerry
Whitney, Jed Flores, Michael Jugan, Brian Lawler, Stefan Brysha, Kevin
Morgenstern and Eric Wuebben, opened numerous holes for Newport-Mesa.
Clinic (ages 8-10) Seahawks 20, La Mirada Matadors 0 - Quarterback
Jordan Lush rushed for a touchdown and threw for another to Bucko Theriot
on a 30-yard strike.
Kevin Rask and Travis Sorenson each starred in the Seahawks’ backfield
thanks to a strong job by offensive linemen Hunter Alder, Joey Jones and
Nick Svendsen.
The Seahawks maintained the shutout due to the strong play of Troy
Bundy, Kyle Chene, Kyle Johnson, Max Steigler, Jeff Aschleris and Michael
Ensign.
The junior clinic (ages 7-8) Seahawks played a solid game against
defending Division Champion Mission Viejo and came out on top.
Quarterback Parker Norton and fullbacks Luke Christiano and Michael
Taormina were a force in the backfield, while linemen J.D. Abbott, Nick
Tripi and Ryan Hatcher opened the holes for the running game.
On the defensive side, Tripi, Abbott, Reid Johnson, Buzzy Yokayama and
Nick Taormina led the way with numerous hits.
