ISSUE: FITNESS PROGRAM
Vote: 4-1, with Trustee Matthew Harper dissenting
Summary: The board voted to renew the district’s participation in the
24-hour corporate membership program for the annual fee of $1,500 to be
paid from the South Counties Employer/Employees Trust Wellness grant.
ISSUE: PROPOSITION 38
Vote: 4-1, with Harper dissenting
Summary: The California Boards Assn. recommends the board oppose
Proposition 38, which would use public funds to provide $4,000 vouchers
for students already in private and religious schools.
ISSUE: PROPOSITION 39
Vote: 2-3, with Trustees Harper, Sallie Dashiell and Michael Simons
dissenting
Summary: The California Boards Assn. recommends the board oppose
Proposition 39, which will reduce the school bond vote requirement from a
two-thirds majority to 55%, while also enforcing accountability standards
governing the spending oversight of local bond money.
ISSUE: GROWTH POINTS
Vote: 5-0
Summary: The board awarded $750 each to classified employee who have
earned 10 approved growth points in accordance with the California School
Employees Assn. contract. Professional growth is measured by an increase
of knowledge, understanding and skills in the employees assignments;
personal development; and assistance in fields related the employees’
duties.
ISSUE: TEXTBOOKS
Vote: 5-0
Summary: The board adopted a resolution declaring that the district
already has, or will have before the end of fiscal year 2000-01,
sufficient textbooks and instructional materials in each subject area
that are consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum
frameworks adopted by the California State Board of Education.
