We asked people on Balboa Island: What do you think about the
possibility of the Newport Beach City Council postponing a vote on the
proposed Dunes resort until after the general elections in November?
No way do I want this hotel, regardless of what the City Council
decides to do. ... What the developer is proposing to do sounds sneaky.

I just moved here and I am not for this hotel. I think it would be
ugly in that area. I also disapprove of the lobbying to get it off the
books until after the election. It’s manipulative.

To me, I think the people are concentrating too much opposition of the
Dunes -- and maybe it should be scaled back -- but they should be paying
attention to the hundreds of time shares going in over in Newport Coast.
Oppose that!
ELLIS MORCOS

I’m not against development if its done aesthetically. It helps bring
revenue into the community. I wouldn’t mind seeing this hotel go in, as
long as they provide ample parking. So whatever happens between now and
November, I wouldn’t vote against it. With or without the hotel, people
are still going to come here.
HELEN DAHN

The developer is being very smart. Because there is a good chance that
Greenlight won’t go through. And then he’s home free. And if it passes,
then he’s no better off than he is now.
