Club soccer: OCU Sting fares well in preseason tourney
HUNTINGTON BEACH - The OCU Sting, a boys under 19 silver elite club
soccer team went 2-1-1 in the North Huntington Beach Soccer Tournament
last weekend.
Ryan Lancaster scored two goals in the opening win against VU Extreme
on Saturday.
In the afternoon matchup, the Sting battled the Sereno (Ariz.) Silver
Eagles to a scoreless tie before Brian Walton scored the game’s lone goal
on a penalty kick late in the game. Strong defense was turned in by
Walton, Bijan Ewalt, David Jenkins, Scott Nickerson and Troy Davidson.
The Sting’s offense was led by Jeff Kinkopf, Brian Henry, Chasen
Marshall, Justin Collins, Billy Lund and Jordan Christian.
Against a team from Berkeley, goalkeeper Sam Coons was solid in goal,
making numerous saves, including a point-blank blast.
The Sting lost in the semifinals, 1-0, but look strong as the regular
season kicks off Saturday against the Blast Soccer Club of San
Bernardino.
