Fountain Bowl will host a fund-raising party from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday
in honor of Kelly Osborn, who died in a car accident four years ago.
Proceeds will benefit the Kelly Osborn Memorial Scholarship Fund, which
awards college scholarships to high school students. The goal is to raise
$10,000 this year.
The cost for the moonlight casino bowling will be $25 per person and
includes three games of bowling, door prizes and other games. Food is
available.
Anyone with a group of eight to 10 people can prepay to guarantee a
spot together.
Fountain Bowl is at 17110 S. Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley.

Sunset in the Park
races set for today
The Sunset in the Park 2.8-mile and 4.8-mile races will be held today
in Huntington Beach Central Park at Edwards Street, between Slater and
Ellis avenues. Race fees range from $4 to $16, depending on the race, age
and inclusion of T-shirt.
The 2.8-mile race will begin at 6 p.m., and the 4.8-mile will begin at
6:30 p.m. Similar races for high school girls will begin at 5 p.m. and
5:30 p.m. for boys.

Employees honored for milestones
Golden West College honored 75 of its employees for reaching
milestones in their service to the Huntington Beach college. The awards
were presented to employees completing five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35
years of employment at the campus.
The honorees who have been employed at the college for five years are

Slogans earn students scholarships, awards
The American Educational League awarded several cash scholarships to
local students in its countywide slogan contest. Ocean View High School
graduate Anthony Garza won first place. His classmates Nicholas Mendes,
Hoa Le, and Sudantha Liyanaarachchi also received awards. Edison High
School graduate Megan Loughran also won, as did Westminster High School
graduate Michael K.N. Nguyen.
Golden West student receives scholarship
Golden West College student Jonathan Green received a $500 scholarship
from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Undergraduate Scholars Program.
The program was developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in
collaboration with the California Institute of Technology to recognize
high potential in students majoring in engineering, mathematics, computer
sciences or the physical sciences.
As an honoree, Green has also been given the opportunity to apply for
a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship to begin next year.
Green, a Huntington Beach resident, has been accepted to UC Irvine and
will begin classes this fall as a physical chemistry and biochemistry
major while he finishes his last semester at Golden West. The science
enthusiast plans to attend medical school and is considering a job in
radiology.
Golden West instructor honored
Golden West College instructor Dennis Lynch was chosen as this year’s
UC Irvine Extension Distinguished Instructor.
Lynch has taught in UCI’s international business program for five
years and has taught as a Golden West College adjunct instructor for
three years in management, marketing and international and global
business.
UC Irvine recognized Lynch for his outstanding teaching skills and for
his service as an advisory board member who helped revise the business
program’s curriculum.
Lynch has been working in international business for 20 years and is a
trade consultant who advises clients on how to enter foreign markets.
