The Stingrays, an Orange County surf band, will perform at Triangle
Square’s Surf Expo at 11 a.m. Saturday. The free expo will include
surfing fashions, products and safety information.
In addition, Hoag Hospital’s Project Wipe Out will present information
at the event on potential surfing problems, such as serious neck and
spinal cord injuries.

Composer Glass will discuss new symphony
Composer Philip Glass will participate in festivities for the
“Eclectic Orange Festival 2000,” which begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at the
Orange County Performing Arts Center. The opening night program will
celebrate the West Coast premiere of Glass’ newest work, Symphony No. 5
Requiem, Bardo and Nirmanakaya.
Before the 8 p.m. concert, Philharmonic Society Executive Director
Dean Corey, will host a “Conversation with Philip Glass,” giving audience
members a chance to ask questions and discuss Glass’ newest work and the
festival.
Admission to the discussion is free with concert tickets, which are
$15 to $55. The Center is at 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.

OCC to hold dance ensemble tryouts
Orange Coast College will hold auditions at noon Sept. 1 for its
performing dance ensemble Danc’n Etc in the campus’ Dance Studio B, 2701
Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.
The company is looking for dancers and actors. Each member of the
troupe will earn three units of college credit this fall.
