COSTA MESA
* Tustin Avenue: A $500 beach cruiser was stolen from a home in the
1700 block at 4:50 p.m. Aug. 10.
* Cabrillo Street: Two male suspects broke into a black Chevy pickup
truck parked in the 200 block and stole a briefcase, leather binder and
car stereo sometime between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday. The
items were valued at $470.
NEWPORT BEACH
* Fifth Street: An explosive device, possibly an M-80, was detonated
in a mailbox in the 3000 block at 1 a.m. Monday. The mailbox was valued
at $50.
* 35th Street: About $300 worth of items were stolen from a home in
the 300 block between Sunday evening and Monday morning. Taken were two
bodyboards, a scooter and a skim board.
* 20th Street: Someone stole a 6-inch stack of mail from a bin at the
U.S. Postal Service in the 200 block between 12:30 and 1 p.m. Tuesday.
* East Coast Highway: While the owner of Jebba Needlepoint in the 2600
block helped a customer, another customer stole a wallet from the
employee room at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
* East Coast Highway: Someone stole a $499 cellular phone with a $21
black leather case from a convertible parked in the Albertson’s parking
lot in the 3000 block at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
* Michael Place: Someone stole letters from a residential mailbox in
the 600 block between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Friday. Taken were a $140 check,
a $50 check and a $35 check.
