*Ocean View and Hazel Dell both will be making their first

appearance in the Western Region championship final.

*Ocean View will attempt to become the 11th California Little League

team to win a Western Region title in the past 12 years (both Cypress

Federal and Long Beach have won two titles during that span). Boise,

Idaho broke a 10-year win streak by California teams by winning last

year’s event.

*As a team, Ocean View has hit eight home runs in the Western Region

tournament.

*Ocean View’s Hank Conger now has 33 home runs this season, three of

which have come during the regional, including one grand slam.

*Ocean View’s Dallas Walters not only has two regional pitching wins

to his credit, but he also has a tournament home run.

*Something has to give: Ocean View has overpowered its four tournament

opponents, outscoring them, 33-4, with two shutouts. Hazel Dell has done

much the same, recording three shutouts, and outscoring their four rivals

by a 36-2 count.

*Al Haughton Stadium in San Bernardino seats 7,500 spectators,

according to one Western Region official. With the addition of outfield

freestyle seating, capacity can reach 9,000.

*Western Region officials also say that tonight’s final will be

televised live by ESPN2.
