INSIDE SCOOP

-- Compiled by Angelique Flores, Kenneth Ma and Torus Tammer

Huntington Beach City School District Supt. Duane Dishno’s admission

of snagging a spot on the VIP list to buy a home in the St. Augustine

tract of Holly Seacliff has other local superintendents jokingly

disassociating themselves from the issue.

“I did not buy a home in the Holly Seacliff development,” Fountain

Valley School District Supt. Marc Ecker asserted upon answering a phone

call from the Independent’s education reporter. “I’ve been living in my

hovel for years.”

Huntington Beach Union High School District Supt. Susan Roper wanted

to clear her name too.

“I’m not on the VIP list,” she said.

Roper admitted to possibly being on a few other lists, however.

Swept away

At a Huntington Beach City Council meeting last week, resident Sara

Stringer told council members about her annoyance over excessive

ticketing associated with the city’s street sweeping program.

In the middle of her dramatic speech, Mayor Dave Garofalo said

jokingly, “Mrs. Stringer, the street sweepers are coming.”

Flame out

Fountain Valley Mayor Guy Carrozzo was beaming with pride at the last

City Council meeting -- and no, it had nothing to do with the flag. Proud

as a peacock, the mayor spoke of Fountain Valley’s valiant firefighters,

who went down in flames with an 86-81 loss to the Chinese Women’s

National Basketball team recently.

“They all really did a great job,” Carrozzo said. “We should all be

proud of them.”
