* Whittier Avenue: A thief who stole a $320 mountain bike locked to a
rack in the 1000 block over the weekend must have made a quick getaway.
* East 17th Street: Not even used items are safe from burglars.
Someone stole $2,399 worth of jewelry and cash from Sarah Whitcomb
Antiques in the 100 block over the weekend.
* East 17th Street: Someone obviously needing to send a lot of mail
stole $66 worth of postage stamps from Newport Frame Co. in the 100 block
over the weekend.
NEWPORT BEACH
* Bison Avenue: How much mail can you send with $1,034 worth of
stamps? Someone will find out after burglarizing Mail Boxes Etc. in the
1000 block at 3:04 a.m. Tuesday.
* Bonita Canyon Drive: Someone stole $18,814 worth of items from a
construction site storage shed in the 3000 block over the weekend. The
thief must have be planning on some serious home improvements because the
items taken included hand tools, power tools, pumps, tool belts and cable
slings.
* MacArthur Boulevard: The person who left a $3,810 laptop computer
unattended in the Radisson Hotel restaurant in the 4000 block at 8:50
a.m. Tuesday learned the hard way not to be so trusting of others.
* Placentia Avenue: A thief who broke into the laundry facility at Ebb
Tide Trailer Park in the 1000 block between Sunday and Monday definitely
did not hit the jackpot. The washing machine coin boxes pried open were
empty.
* 16th Street: It couldn’t have been too difficult to devise a scheme
to snatch an unattended wallet containing $180 from the roof of a vehicle
at Irvine Avenue between 11:40 a.m. and noon Monday.
