Fountain Valley Youth Baseball’s Bronco All-Star team extended its
win streak to 17 last weekend by opening the PONY Baseball Zone
Tournament with a pair of victories at York Field in Whittier.
Fountain Valley ripped Palmdale, 15-2, in its tournament opener as
pitchers Thomas Marcin, Chad Blauer and Branden Lawson combined to limit
Palmdale to two runs on three hits. A potent offense was paced by Jeff
Roth, who went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs.
Additionally, Garrett Leon, Kyle Mastel, and Marcin each had multiple
hit games, while Jake Mahlstedt, Cameron Mc Mullen, Dean Otsuka, and Ryan
Stehle contributed other key hits.
In its second game against Corona, Fountain Valley found itself in a
1-1 struggle through four innings before it erupted for four, fifth
inning runs, with Mahlstedt’s double with runners on base helped ignite
the scoring.
Mastel led Fountain Valley on offense with a 3 for 3 performance, with
Blauer and Roth each getting two hits. Jason Croswell, Leon, and Mc
Mullen also had hits.
Leon and Roth shared pitching duties, and the duo held Corona to its
one run on four hits, while striking out 10.
Fountain Valley continues play this week in the PONY Baseball Zone
Tournament, which features winners from the various Regional tournaments
from the Western United States. The Zone winner will advance to the PONY
Baseball World Series in Monterey later this month.
