INSIDE SCOOP
At the July 17 Huntington Beach City Council meeting, Mayor Dave
Garofalo greeted the sponsors of the Huntington Beach Art Center
Children’s Art Camp in a ceremony. When posing for a picture with the
children who are participating in the camp this summer, Garofalo jokingly
said: “People my size make me feel taller.”
A FEW FIRSTS
Pauline McIntosh, 82, was the first student Carrie Wall had to teach
how to use a calculator. But that wasn’t the math teacher’s only first
with McIntosh.
“She’s the only student I’ve had that calls me honey,” Wall said.
LESS HEAT
A fiery game of basketball Monday between the Chinese Women’s Olympic
team and the combined forces of Fountain Valley and Garden Grove
firefighters, who lost to the women, 81-86, lost its sting soon after the
final buzzer, when player Joe Cucinotti of the Fountain Valley Fire
Department carried his toddler daughter onto the court.
In a flash, the firefighter was surrounded by several tall women
doting on the little girl.
