Newport Beach resident Debra Lee Allen has been installed as
president of the Newport Beach Lions Club for 2000-01 during a
customized, two-hour cruise hosted by the Adventures of the Sea Yacht
Charters. After a year of leadership, Ann Stern is the past president.
Serving with Allen are vice presidents Mike Davis, Jacque
Fenton-Kerzman and Dennis Patterson; secretary Jean-Marie Graham,
treasurer Golie Shapiro, Lion tamer Leifha Lekawa, tail twister Carrie
Galinis, directors Todd Hallbrook and Audrey Vaughn, membership chairman
Steve Daxer.
Allen’s major goal is to expand the club’s membership during the
coming year. Members meet at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each
month at Newport Beach Yacht Club, 1099 Bayside Drive. Reservations are

A FEW GOOD LEADERS: Leadership Tomorrow is looking for a few more
candidates qualified to fill its 2001 class. The organization provides
nine outstanding educational workshops and the opportunity to network
with key individuals in Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, Irvine and Newport
Beach in important aspects of the community. Many Leadership Tomorrow
graduates have gone on to appointed and elected offices in their
respective cities and in a variety of nonprofit organizations. Tuition is
$1,200 and is often underwritten by employers.

Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club member Bill Wengeler introduced Eric
Maldonado, who at the age of 16 was a June graduate of Monte Vista Back
Bay High School and is now registered at Orange Coast College. Maldonado
will major in mechanical engineering and computer science. In support of
his continuing education, Maldonado received a $500 scholarship from club
President Ron Millar.
Members of Soroptimist International Newport Harbor are volunteering
Aug. 2 and 4 to help with the United States Equestrian Team Olympic
Selection Trials, being held at the Oaks/Blenheim Rancho Mission Viejo
Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano.

hear from Brad Avery, director of sailing and seamanship at Orange Coast
College.

recent travel adventures. Noon -- Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa will meet at

Corinthian Yacht Club to hear Denise Hurley, basketball coach at
University High School. Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will meet at the
Riverboat Restaurant. Newport Irvine Rotary Club will meet at Irvine
Marriott hotel to hear about Westview Charity.
