Robinwood stays alive, 9-1

Robinwood Little League’s Junior Division All-Star team kept its

hopes alive for a Sectional Tournament title Wednesday by rolling past La

Puente, 9-1, in an elimination contest played at Behringer Park in La

Mirada.

The victory puts Robinwood in the tournament final, but the team must

beat host La Mirada twice to win the crown, beginning tonight, at 6 p.m.

Against La Puente, Manager Dave Brock used everybody in his lineup to

score the impressive victory.

“Everybody got to play, and everybody got to hit - it was a great team

victory,” he said. “We hit the ball well, and we pitched well. I really

think we have a good chance of beating La Mirada.”

Robinwood will attempt to avenge La Mirada’s come-from-behind, 6-5

victory, that it scored last Saturday.

Starting pitcher Steve Willson got the win Wednesday, going 4 1/2

innings as Robinwood, which scored two, first inning runs, took control.

He was the first of four pitchers used by Brock, as Nick Cardona, Shawn

Parro, and Eric Alcala all saw action.

“Steve (Willson-- pitched an excellent 4 1/2 innings,” Brock said. “He

had an awesome showing, and really helped us get the lead.”

Eric Oviatt’s solo home run was the big hit of the game for Robinwood,

which now hit five home runs (including two home runs) since the

tournament began last Saturday.

On interesting stat Robinwood complied against La Puente was that

eight of their nine runs were scored with no one on base, and with two

out.

Brock said he will start Alcala on the mound tonight against La

Mirada.
