Baseball: Mayor Cup series starts today

COSTA MESA - The fourth-annual Mayor’s Cup series between the Costa
Mesa American and National Little League Majors (11-12) All-Star baseball
teams starts today, 5:30 p.m., at Costa Mesa High.
This annual matchup between the cross-town rival is a best-of-three
series.
This year’s CMALL squad was the first Costa Mesa team to win a
postseason game since 1996. It will be represented by R.J. Duernberger,
Andrew Sanford, Evan Hunter, Jamie Tinnion, Dave Chambers, Matt Doran,
Brandon Hoffman, Corey Hughes, Jordan Kolke, Ricky Sepulveda and Isiah
Werdel.
The CMNLL features brothers Vinnie and Victor Valdez, Ryan Bagwell,
Evan Vangeem, Kane Curran, P.J. Errington, Matthew Jeranko, Hillary
Larsen, Mike McDaniels, Trevor McDonald and Nicholas Smith. Michael Wolf
replaced Dallas Kopp, who was unavailable.
The CMALL leads this series, 2-1, including a two-game sweep last
year.
