The Fountain Valley Youth Baseball Bronco A...
The Fountain Valley Youth Baseball Bronco A All-Star team powered
its way through the PONY Sectional Tournament last weekend in Garden
Grove to earn a first round bye in the upcoming Regional Tournament,
which will be held later this month in Whittier.
Fountain Valley defeated Placentia, Newport Harbor, and Los Alamitos
in a three-day span to run their win streak to 15 games.
Fountain Valley 15, Placentia 3
Thomas Marcin allowed just one run on four hits in four innings
pitched as Fountain Valley opened tournament play last Friday with the
rout. Garrett Leon had two doubles and three RBI, and Jason Croswell,
Jeff Roth, and Chad Blauer all had multiple RBIs.
Fountain Valley 7, Newport Harbor 6
On Saturday, Fountain Valley’s 13-game win streak was in jeopardy as
Newport Harbor scored four first inning runs. However, Fountain Valley’s
comeback began when Garrett Leon doubled home Jason Croswell and later
scored on a passed ball, and Cameron McMullen drove in Chad Blauer to
narrow the deficit to 4-3. But Newport struck for two more runs in the
third inning for a 6-3 lead, but Fountain Valley came within 6-4 when
Croswell scored. With relief pitcher Jeff Hann shutting down Newport over
the final three innings, the Fountain Valley bats came alive in the
sixth. McMullen doubled up the alley in left field, and Leon scored on a
fielder’s choice to make it a 6-5 game. With the bases loaded in the
seventh inning, Branden Lawson drew an RBI walk to tie the score, and
Hann drove in Croswell with the winning run.
Fountain Valley 12, Los Alamitos 2
Pitcher Jeff Roth held Los Alamitos to four hits with four strikeouts
in four innings, and reliever Thomas Marcin closed by allowing just one
hit in two innings as Fountain Valley rolled in the championship game. In
a collective effort offensively, Garrett Leon, Cameron McMullen, Jake
Mahlstedt, Kyle Mastel, Marcin, and Roth all had RBIs.
