Robinwood, Fountain Valley to play for Jr. title
- Share via
Robinwood Little League gained a measure of revenge Monday night by
handing Fountain Valley its initial loss of the District 62 Junior
Division All-Star Tournament, 8-4, at Robinwood.
The victory avenged last Thursday’s 4-0 defeat to Fountain Valley, and
with Monday’s triumph, Robinwood earned the right to meet Fountain Valley
for a third time in the tournament to decide the division champion.
The winner of the division’s double elimination tournament will
advance to next week’s Southern California Sectional Tournament.
Robinwood’s Eric Alcala had big game Monday. In the first inning, he
launched a three-run home run over the right field fence. Robinwood had
scored three more times before Fountain Valley attempted to intentionally
walk Alcala in the sixth inning. However, on the fourth pitch (a 3-0
count) and with the Fountain Valley catcher standing out of position to
take in another potential ball, Alcala reached out and connected with the
pitch, sending a home run over the 320-foot mark in center field.
In addition, Alcala relieved Robinwood starting pitcher Eric Oviatt in
the third inning and proceeded to allow just one hit while shutting out
Fountain Valley the remainder of the game.
Oviatt also singled, doubled, and scored two runs for Robinwood.
Robinwood also defeated Ocean View last Saturday, 9-4, with Adam
Dedeaux getting the pitching win. Steve Willson got the save, striking
out five of the 12 batters he faced. Offensively, Alcala went 3 for 3
with a double, a pair of singles, and three RBI, and Sean Parro singled
and doubled with an RBI.
