Honoring his father who died from cancer five years ago, Mike
Rogers will once again “Paddle for the Cure.”
Enduring a 32-mile race from Catalina Island to Manhattan Beach,
Rogers will symbolically parallel the physical struggles that cancer
patients endure.
To date, he has raised $200,000 for cancer research at Hoag Cancer
Center. And with more than 500 residents expected to attend the event
this Saturday, Rogers hopes to increase that figure.
A fund-raiser will begin Saturday with a sunset “Luau for Life” from 6
to 9:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Newporter. The event will feature hula dancers,
the surf band “The Swingin’ Tikis” and tropical drinks.
Money raised at the luau will benefit Rogers’ mission to raise money
for cancer.
The Hyatt Newporter is at 1107 Jamboree Road, Newport Beach.
