Softball: Pacific Coast Bobby Sox Red goes to Nationals

MISSION VIEJO - Newport Beach’s Pacific Coast Bobby Sox American 12
and under “Red” softball team dominated four opponents in the regional
qualifier at Mission Del Norte to advance to the National tournament,
which starts on July 27.
Pacific Coast defeated Tustin South, 4-0, in seven innings for the
second time in the tournament for the championship. Christie Hamers threw
a shutout for the win. Pacific Coast beat Tustin, 2-1, in its final pool
game. Ashley Gleason singled in Michele Allred for the winning run, who
doubled and was advanced by a hit by Debbie Yoder-Lee.
In its first game, Pacific Coast beat South Tustin, 5-2, in seven
innings. Hamers pitched a complete-game victory. Pacific Coast destroyed
Mission Del Norte, 15-2, in the second game. Gleason and Laura Meaut
provided the game’s highlight with back-to-back home runs. Pacific Coast
then got a 10-0 mercy rule win over San Clemente. Gleason hit another
home run and struck out seven batters in three innings of relief as a
pitcher.
