Sharks derail Red Wings, 4-1

Kevin Lassen scored two goals and assisted a third Wednesday to

lead the Sharks to a 4-1 victory over the Red Wings in a Campbell

Division matchup played at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in

Huntington Beach.

Lassen netted his first goal at the 10:34 mark of the second period

when he scored off a Daniel Reed assist, bringing the Sharks into a 1-1

tie. His final goal came 45 seconds into the final period and closed the

match’s scoring.

The 1-1 tie was broken with three minutes left in the third quarter

when Kyle Merrick scored unassisted, and the Sharks upped their lead to

3-1 when Reed scored off feed from Lassen.

Sharks goalie Nicholas Capriccio recorded 16 saves.

Taylor Song scored for the Red Wings.

Nathan Hoffman scored at the 11:23 mark of the final period to lift

the Hurricanes into a tie with the Kings.

The Kings had taken a 2-1 lead through one quarter of play on goals by

Dean Metherell and Brad Janelli, with Daniel Graves getting an assist.

Dylan Caldeira’s score off an Ashleigh Wood assist put the Hurricanes

on the scoreboard in the opening quarter.

Following a scoreless second period, the Kings grabbed a 3-1 advantage

when Janelli scored off a Zach Gillespie feed. However, the Hurricanes

stormed back late in the match, getting a goal from Brett Morinaka off

another Wood assist, one minute prior to Hoffman’s tying goal.

Both goaltenders had a busy day in the net. Hurricanes goalie Daniel

Ane had a match high of 28 saves, while his Kings counterpart, Cody

Schlegel, stopped 26 shot attempts.
