Sailing: Lido Island strong at Jr. Commodores Regatta
NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor Yacht Club had three winners during
last Sunday’s Junior Commodores Cup Regatta a Lido Island Yacht Club,
while the host had two showing strong.
After a fifth-place finish, NHYC’s Sabot C3 class boat, with Christopher
Bernard as the skipper, won its last two races to place first. NHYC’s
Sabot C1 and C2 boats, captained by Stephen Scruggs and Mac Mace,
respectively, had one win and two second places to take their classes.
LIYC’s Zack Haskell was the recipient of the Commodore Pickens Perpetuals
award, which goes to the junior sailor with the lowest point. His boat
had two wins and a third-place finish in the Sabot B class for five
points.
LIYC’s Carter Ford was the only one in the competition to have his boat
win all three of its races. His boat won the Laser class.
Balboa Yacht Club’s Sabot A boat, captained by Justin Law, had one first
place and two second places to capture its class.
