Walters whips Angels

The Astros dominated the Angels Saturday behind the pitching and

hitting of Dallas Walters, scoring a 12-0 Majors Division victory in

weekend play at Ocean View Little League.

Walters tamed the Halos on 14 strikeouts in five innings’ work, and also

delivered two huge blows in the game with two run home runs in both of

the second and fifth innings.

The two homers gives Walters six on the season.

The Astros were further aided by the three-hit work of kris Bernard and

Eric Jaso, and Ryan Shillito’s two hits.

The Angels’ recorded three hits off Walters and Bernard (one inning),

with Scott Melchert getting two hits and Jeff Hennes a single.

In other games:

Reds 4, Mariners 0

The Reds got the shutout behind the pitching of Hank Conger (five

innings, 13 strikeouts) and Dylan Nicholson (one inning), and the timely

hitting of Jeff Van Doornum (a two-RBI single); the Mariners stayed in

contention behind the pitching of Andy Chersin and Tomas Yoo, who split

the six innings and allowed just three hits. Davey Hughey singled for the

Mariners.

Cardinals 7, Dodgers 6

The comeback Cardinals pulled out another one, this time on Cassidy

Hunkle’s game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth inning that

capped a rally from two runs down. Jeff Mollica had a two-RBI double in

the inning and also had an RBI double in the first inning, Chris Palmer

hit a solo home run, and Hunkle finished with two hits. Greg Gonzalez

(two hits) had a solo home run and Nick Bermel had two hits to lead the

Cardinals.

Reds 9, Astros 3

Jeff Van Doornum, James Kang, and Conger combined their pitching efforts,

and Jarrett Carr’s single set the offense in motion as the Reds claimed

another victory.

Cardinals 3, Angels 2

This Cardinal rally netted a win in seven innings. Chris Palmer hit

another solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score,

and Jeff Mollica (single) scored on a wild pitch for the winning run.

Thomas Burns had two hits, including an RBI single, Justin Chambers had

an RBI double and single, and Justin Chambers struck out eight in six

innings to lead the Angels. Palmer struck out 11 in four innings, Brett

Sterbens didn’t allow a run in two innings, and Andrew Zar added two hits

for the Angels.

Dodgers 7, Mariners 5

Greg Gonzalez had two hits and Riley Buccola and Rory Jones each doubled

among two hits for the Dodgers; Alex Van Arsdale had three hits, Thomas

Yoo doubled and singled, and Davey Hughey had two hits for the Mariners.
