HUNTINGTON BEACH -- All is quiet at Marina High since Friday’s media
bombardment outside of the school.
The engagement of 18-year-old Vanessa Laine to Los Angeles Laker star
Kobe Bryant was confirmed last week and brought an onslaught of reporters
to Laine’s former school. Laine is now in home studies.
Because the media was not allowed on school grounds, the students talked
to the press in front of the campus during their lunch hour. All the
hoopla caused no disruptions, and the media has not returned to the
school since, officials said.
“The press was pretty well-behaved,” principal Carol Osbrink said.
Although the student was given the option to attend the school’s prom,
the couple has said they will not be attending.
The prom is scheduled for June 3.
