A MOVING OPINION

Among the people voicing their opinions at last week’s City Council

meeting was former resident Mike O’Grady, who spoke out against the

construction of a low-income housing project.

“I used to be a resident of Huntington Beach, but my wife made me move,”

he said.

Mayor Dave Garofalo suspected he knew why.

“Does she still live here?” he joked.

FILM AND FOLLY

Betty Della Penna, teacher at Tamura Elementary School, used to study the

farm with her students. One night, the teachers got together at school to

watch a movie, “Pigs,” -- more for laughs than for classroom preparation.

They heard a knock on the door and a voice asking, “What are you doing in

there?”

Annoyed by the interruptions, the teachers didn’t open the door.

“We’re watching ‘Pigs,’ ” they yelled back, trying to shake off the

intruders.

The intruders, said Della Penna, turned out to be police officers who

didn’t appreciate the teachers not opening the door. They were also a

little upset with the movie’s title.

BEATING THE COLD?

During a recent interview with a reporter who comes from the Inland

Valley, Huntington Beach lifeguard Eric Dymmel commented about the influx

of Inland Valley residents visiting Bolsa Chica for a break from the

heat. With a tongue-in-cheek delivery, Dymmel delivered this observation:

“Yeah ... they come all the way out here to get away from the heat, and

after two hours decide that it’s too cold and then head all the way

back.”
