Pilot Cup needs coaches
NEWPORT-MESA - With the first annual Pilot Cup youth soccer
tournament approaching, the youngsters are lining up for the fun battle.
Now all the tourney needs are more coaches.
“We’ve got the players, but we don’t have enough coaches,” tournament
director Kirk McIntosh said. “It’s strictly on a volunteer basis. I’ve
been talking to the schools and they all have players ready to go, but we
need some more adult help.”
The tournament will take place June 2-4.
The Pilot Cup is a one-weekend competition to see which school, public or
private has the best soccer team in the following divisions: third- and
fourth-grade boys, third- and fourth-grade girls, fifth- and sixth-grade
boys and fifth- and sixth-grade girls.
The deadline for youngsters to sign up is Saturday at the principal’s
office or athletic’s office of each school.
Registration is $5 and all the participants in the tournament, sponsored
by the Daily Pilot and the Youth Services Association, will receive a
T-shirt.
Winners will receive commemorative awards and the winning school will
receive the right to show off the Pilot Cup Perpetual Trophy for one
year.
The finals will take place June 4 at Kaiser and Harper elementary
schools.
