Mercury defeats West Huntington Beach, 30-24
The East Huntington Beach Mercury bolted to an early nine point
lead, but then had to battle from behind in the second half Thursday to
score a 30-24 victory over West Huntington Beach in an National Junior
Basketball girls All-Net 7th-grade contest at the West Newport Community
Center.
East Huntington Beach took a 14-5 through the first 1 1/2 quarters of
play, but the Mercury had to settle for a 14-11 halftime lead.
West Huntington Beach continued to rally early in the second half and
even forged a 19-14 lead, before East Huntington Beach closed the game
with a 16-5 run.
Kay-Dee Lane scored 10 points, DJ Butler scored six points to go along
with 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, and Allison Budzinski scored six
points with four assists.
