Aletha Anderson of Coto de Caza has been elected as chairwoman of the
ninth annual Komen Orange County Race for the Cure, planned for
September.
The event, presented by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
Orange County affiliate, will take place at Fashion Island in Newport
Beach.
More than 25,000 people took part in the 1999 race, which raised $1.3
million. Since the race began in Orange County in 1992, the fund-raiser
has generated $4.5 million for breast cancer research.
Anderson, who became involved with the race in its founding year, said it
is a family event with something for everyone. It will feature a team
competition, a women’s and coed 5K run/walk, live entertainment, the
Chevron Kids’ Expo and a Health and Fitness Expo.
The highlight of the day will be the special ceremony to pay tribute to
hundreds of breast cancer survivors.
The Orange County race is one of 112 Komen Foundation Race for the Cure
events held annually throughout the country. For more information, call
