the CIF State track and field preliminaries.

Newport Harbor’s Mandy Clayton leaps a 36-10 1/2 in the triple jump,

which places her eighth in the CIF state girls track and field prelims

and just out of qualifying.

Brothers Kevin and Brian Carlson of Southern California College finish

third and fourth respectively in the men’s high jump during the NAIA

track and field championships. The Vanguards’ Nikee Pool is fourth in the

women’s 800-meter run.

Robert Grayeli scores five goals and James Comfort gets four as Costa

Mesa’s boys water polo team defeated Marina, 16-9, for the Coronado

Tournament championship.

Newport Harbor’s Misty May is named the Orange County All-Star Volleyball

Game MVP as she leads the South girls to a 21-10, 22-20, 21-16 victory

over the North. Newport’s Tina Bowman and Sara Fairborn also play for the

South. In the boys game, the Sailors’ Greg Slick gets six kills as his

South team wins, 21-10, 19-20, 21-19.

Newport Harbor’s Morgan Anderson teams with Los Amigos’ Matt Stafford to

win a match in the boys Orange County All-Star Golf Match.

Ten years ago

Estancia’s Debbie Hargrove and Marie Midland both qualify for the CIF

girls track and field state meet in the discus. Each of them throws

133-10 in the CIF Masters Meet, which is the third best mark.

Newport Harbor’s Brett Hansen-Dent advances to the CIF individual boys

tennis semifinals with a pair of victories.

Corona del Mar’s boys tennis team comes within match point of advancing

to the CIF Southern Section Division 4-A championship, but the Sea Kings

fall to Dana Hills, 10-8. Ken Alsten, Marshall Solomon, Trenton Rhodes

and Alex McClintock are all involved in doubles’ sweeps for CdM.

Estancia’s Austin Maki qualifies for the CIF-Southern California Golf

Association boys championships with a score of 75 in the CIF individual

championships.

Orange Coast college’s Gina Garcia and Iliana Adams defeat Chabot’s

Gloria Ball and Jenny Johnston to share the community college state

women’s doubles title. Garcia won the state individual title earlier.

OCC’s junior varsity crew team advances wins the Pacific Coast

Championship to advance to the Intercollegiate Rowing Championships.
