Boys volleyball: CdM, Tars open CIF playoffs Friday

Corona del Mar High, one of three schools to tie for the top

ranking in the final CIF Southern Section Division I boys volleyball

coaches poll, is seeded third and will open the postseason Friday.

Coach Steve Conti’s Pacific Coast League champion Sea Kings (17-1) host

the winner of Wednesday’s wild-card match between Capistrano Valley (9-5)

and Huntington Beach (9-10).Newport Harbor (13-5), co-champion of the Sea

View League and defending CIF Division I champion, also plays a

first-round match Friday at Moore League champion Long Beach Poly (16-1).

The Back Bay powers, who have played three times this season, with CdM

winning all three, could potentially meet in the title match, May 27 at

Cypress College.

Marina (No. 1), Irvine (No. 2) and Loyola (No. 4) are also seeded.
