NBLL Majors: Yankees rally for ninth-inning win

NEWPORT BEACH - It took over a month to complete, but when it

finally ended, the Yankees defeated the Diamondbacks in nine innings,

8-7, in Newport Beach Little League Majors Division action last weekend.

In a game that began on March 18 and was suspended due to darkness, the

Yankees rallied with four runs in the eighth inning before pulling out

the win in the ninth.

Zack Von Berg led off the ninth with a base hit, stole second and scored

the winning run on a base hit by Kyle Schneekluth.

Yankee catcher Michael Aspegren led the offense with two hits.

The Diamondbacks were led by Wyatt Cole, who had two hits and three RBIs.

In other Majors Division action:

Giants 8, Angels 7 - The Giants held off a late rally by the Angels for

the win.

Zack Powers keyed a four-run third inning with a big home run. Powers,

Michael Kordich and Jamie Kline each scored twice.

Tom Money struck out nine in four innings of work for the Giants.

For the Angels, Brandon Mason had a double, triple and three runs scored.

The Angels, scored three runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to one

before Kordich got the final out on a strikeout for the Giants.

Yankees 4 Cardinals 3 - The Yankees’ Andrew Keligan had a clutch two-out,

RBI single to defeat the Cardinals in seven innings.

Yankee pitchers combined to strikeout 10 Cardinals in the game. Strong

relief work by Kyle Schneekluth and Michael Orozco preserved the win.

The Cardinals were led by William O’Brien, who had a single and a double,

along with Matt Jones, who had two RBIs and a base hit.

Colin Wigley had two solid defensive plays, while Steven Hinton pitched

five strong innings for the Cards.

Giants 3, Red Sox 2 - Michael Kordich’s RBI single in the bottom of the

seventh inning, scoring Zack Powers, gave the Giants the win over the Red

Sox.

Zack Milder led off the game with a bunt single and scored on a double by

Kordich.

Tom Money, Philip Bannan and Kordich held the Red Sox to three hits,

while striking out nine.

Connor Childs and Milder led the Giants’ defense.

For the Red Sox, Scott Leimkuhler and Steven Hillgren played a solid

all-around game.

Yankees 11, Diamondbacks 1 - Strong pitching by Kyle Schneekluth, Kyle

Legrawa and Zack Von Berg led the Yankees to the win over the

Diamondbacks.

Andrew Kiligan had two hits, including a double, while Von Berg also

chipped in with two hits.

Austin Raiger, called up from AAA, had a base hit in his first at-bat,

while Schneekluth, Matt Hauser, Robbie Lusk, Michael Aspegren and Richie

Borensen each chipped in with key hits.

The D-Backs were led by Valentine Ivaniski, who had two hits and Scott

Colton, Peter Polatev and Cameron Black, who each had one hit.
