Riding it out

-- Andrew Glazer

More than 40 intrepid cyclists pedaled from Costa Mesa to San Diego last

weekend, raising enough money to allow 50 abused children to go to summer

camp.

All of the riders are members of the Newport-Mesa Christian Center.

The cyclists raised roughly $14,000 to benefit the Royal Family Kids’

Camp.

Each summer, the camp provides a week of sports, camping and arts and

crafts for more than 100 children removed from abusive households.

Nearly 10 cyclists rode the entire 100 miles Saturday. The rest took a

more leisurely pace along the coastline, stopping for a night in San

Clemente.

“The weather was wonderful and it was really a great time,” said Tony

Choi, one of the event’s organizers.
