IRVINE - The good news for Newport Harbor High’s baseball team is
that Woodbridge pitcher Erik Flagel is a senior.
Flagel threw a complete-game three hitter with 12 strikeouts as the
Warriors knocked off the Sailors, 5-1, Monday night, in Sea View League
action.
Newport’s lone run came in the fifth inning when sophomore Mike Jones
reached on an error, when to second when senior Justin McCarthy walked,
went to third when Miguel Sandoval was hit by a pitch and scored on a
sacrifice fly by Nick Langsdorf.
Langsdorf, Jones and Cody Forsythe had the three hits for the Sailors
(5-15, 2-12 in league).
Sandoval threw three strong innings of relief, allowing only one run on
one hit.
