Baseball: OCC sweeps tournament
VISALIA - The Orange Coast College baseball team made it four wins
in a row in the College of the Sequoias Baseball Tournament, knocking off
the host team, 7-3, in the tournament finale on Friday.
Pirates’ starting pitcher Robert Deven (2-1) kept the Giants off track
with a good mixture of fastballs and off-speed stuff, throwing six strong
innings to earn the win.
“He did a great job of keeping them off-balance,” Coach John Altobelli
said.
John Coleman pitched two shutout innings before Drew Parkin, fresh off a
complete-game win two days ago, pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his
eighth save.
Ryan France hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give OCC
(16-20) the lead for good. Jason Reuss’ three-run home run in the ninth
inning, his 11th of the season, gave OCC some extra breathing room.
The Pirates went 4-0 for the tournament for the second year in a row.
They will resume Orange Empire Conference play at Santa Ana Tuesday at
2:15 p.m.
