Dr. Laura, surf shop settle slander lawsuit
-- Alex Coolman
Radio talk show host Laura Schlessinger has agreed to a settlement in a
slander lawsuit brought by the owner of Beach Access, a surf shop at
South Coast Plaza, an attorney said Friday.
Andrew Guilford, attorney for Beach Access owner Tom Moore, confirmed
that the case had been settled “to the satisfaction of his clients.”
The suit was settled March 28, Guilford said.
Schlessinger originally sued Moore last September, but her lawsuit was
dismissed by a Superior Court judge in December.
The talk show host had accused Moore of displaying a pornographic
magazine in his store. When Moore called Schlessinger a liar in response
to the charges, Schlessinger went to court.
The magazine in question was a copy of Big Brother, a skateboarding
publication.
Moore eventually filed a counter-suit against Schlessinger after she said
Beach Access was displaying copies of Hustler Magazine disguised as Big
Brother.
Moore’s lawsuit sought $4 million. The terms of the settlement are
confidential, Guilford said.
