1. A GOOD EGG: The Newport Dunes Resort offers a wide variety of
Easter events this weekend. For starters, local children can participate
in a bonnet-decorating contest at 1 p.m. today. At 2:30 p.m., the Easter
Bunny will hide colored eggs on the shores of the Dunes. Then it’s back
to the tables at 4 p.m. to decorate Easter eggs. At 7 p.m., children can
decorate Easter baskets. On Saturday, wake up the kids early so they can
participate in an 8 a.m. Easter egg hunt along the sandy shores of the
Dunes. The resort is at 1131 Back Bay Drive. For more information, call
(949) 729-3863.
2. TILE PAINTING: Children can make their marks on Fashion Island
this weekend in a rare opportunity to paint their very own Fashion Island
tiles. Tile painting will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at
the Island Food Court. Each tax-deductible tile is $100. Proceeds will
benefit the Orange County Museum of Art. For more information, call (949)
721-2000.
3. EARTH DAY PROJECT: Roll up your sleeves and slap on the
sunscreen. Be a part of the California State Parks Foundation’s Earth Day
2000 restoration and cleanup project, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at
Crystal Cove State Park, El Moro Visitor Center. At least 100 volunteers
are being sought. The project, “Hike & Plant,” involves a short hike
through the canyon planting native greenery and removing non-natives.
Gloves, a hat, water and sunscreen are recommended. For more information,
call (888) 98-PARKS.
