NEWPORT BEACH - The Corona del Mar High boys volleyball team all

but insured itself a Pacific Coast League championship Thursday, sweeping

second-place Laguna Beach, 15-4, 15-7, 15-8, on the road to create a

two-match lead with three to play.

Greg Stampley had 13 kills, Alec Hanson 10 and senior Stanford-bound

setter Kevin Hansen had seven kills, 34 assists and four jump-serve aces

to help the Sea Kings improve to 9-1, 5-0 in league.

CdM, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division I and No. 3 in Orange

County, played everyone in their fifth straight league sweep.

Forrest Mack (six kills), Chris Shepardson (four), Charlie Alshuler

(three), Garrett Macklin (three) and Evan Burden (seven assists and seven

“We felt this was a big match,” CdM Coach Steve Conti said. “We knew a

win would give us a two-match cushion in the standings and we know we

have to win on the road come playoff time.”
