LAGUNA HILLS - Newport Harbor High’s boys volleyball team tuned up
for Thursday’s invasion of No. 1-ranked Irvine with a routine 15-11,
15-9, 15-5 Sea View League victory at Laguna Hills High Tuesday night.
Coach Dan Glenn’s Sailors were led by the play of Billy Clayton (15
kills), Adam Tomalas (nine kills), Dustin Illingworth (five kills) and
Kent Turner, who had 36 assists. Also with a solid effort was Brad Craig,
with four blocks and a solo kill.
The Sailors, now 6-3, 3-1 in the Sea View League, will be trying to
avenge a four-game loss to Irvine in the first round, and Glenn said it
was possible, but only if “We don’t shoot ourselves in the foot.
“We made too many unforced errors,” continued Glenn. “You have to make
they win it, then we have a shot. We know the title is on the line, as
far as we’re concerned.”
Laguna Hills fell to 1-3, 4-5.
