SACRAMENTO - The Newport Harbor High boys golf team bounced back
from a frustrating opening day to finish strongly Saturday at the two-day
Jesuit Tournament.
Coach Jim Warren’s Sailors shot 397 over 18 holes Friday at the Allister
McKenzie Golf Course, but shot 385 as a team Saturday on the tougher
Ansel Hoffman course.
Newport senior Jake Allanach, who aced the 186-yard, par-3 No. 8 hole
Friday, finished 9-over (153), as did senior teammate Scott Tippett, for
the tournament.
Kevin Olson had the third-best score for the Sailors (154), followed by
Traighe Concannon (158) and Daniel Kush (159).
Peter Watson (165) and Mitch Johns (169) also represented the Sailors.
Newport faces Sea View League visitor Laguna Hills Tuesday at Big Canyon
Country Club, is in a tournament Wednesday at El Prado, then visits
league rival Woodbridge Thursday at Rancho San Joaquin as the regular
season begins to wind down.
