Boys soccer: Mendoza CIF Player of Year

Estancia High senior Esaul Mendoza, who led the Eagles’ boys soccer
team to the CIF Southern Section Division IV title by scoring 46 goals,
has been named CIF Division IV Player of the Year by Southern California
coaches.
Mendoza is joined on the first team by teammates Cesar Terrones, Irving
Islas and Edson Anaya, while Estancia senior goalie Hilario Arriaga is a
third-team selection.
Newport Harbor sophomore midfielder Tyson Wahl was a second-team pick in
Division II.
Terrones, a senior forward, scored 34 goals for Coach Steve Crenshaw’s
squad, which outscored opponents, 122-14, and finished 20-1-1. He was
second-team All-CIF as a junior.
Islas, a senior midfielder, was a catalyst on offense and defense. He was
third-team All-CIF as a junior.
Anaya, a senior fullback, helped anchor the defense, which along with
Arriaga’s solid work, produced 13 shutouts.
