Prep softball: Defense paces Mustangs

COSTA MESA - Defense was the difference in Costa Mesa High’s 6-1

Pacific Coast League-opening softball victory over visiting Estancia

Tuesday.

Mesa right fielder Laura Ramos made three nice catches and threw a runner

out at first, while left fielder Fernanda Velasco made some dazzling

catches to help the Mustangs improve to 4-7.

Jamie Klimkiewicz went 2 for 3 and Katie Chapman drove in two runs with a

single for the winners.

Estancia fell to 3-11.
