o7 We asked students at Newport Harbor High School: What do you think of

the recent arrest of teacher’s aide Carl Johnson, who is suspected of

dealing drugs?

“It came as a shock because I’ve never heard of those things happening

here before. We’ve always had a good reputation. I’m sure my parents will

be surprised.”

EMILIE SALEH, 15

Sophomore

Newport Beach

(2)

“I think it’s pretty bad that we had someone here working at the school

selling drugs to our students, because drugs can cause a lot of problems.

They can lead to students not graduating. They can screw up their

schoolwork.”

DAVID OLIVIER, 17

Senior

“I was sitting outside having lunch last week when I saw C.J.’s dad come

to pick him up. He told us it was his son that got arrested and he had a

smile on his face.”

JENNIFER ENCISO, 15

Sophomore

Costa Mesa

(4)

“A lot of people here are talking about the arrest. C.J. was a pretty

trustworthy guy. It surprises me that he would have been involved in

this. He kept it pretty undercover. I never would have guessed. But

everybody deserves a second chance. We live in an imperfect world. And

drugs are very easy money.”

ADAM ERETH, 15

Sophomore

“C.J. was a good confidant to the kids. He was easy to talk to. He helped

kids who had learning disabilities and those in wheelchairs. The kids

that were in his class are really freaked about it. The police are

probably going to be talking with them. But he never talked to them about

things like that. It’s a disappointment. But it’s a mistake that is easy

to come by. I feel bad that this is going to ruin his career. He would

have made a wonderful teacher. He deserves a second chance. Hillary

forgave Bill.”
