Proposed senior center plans to be discussed
The Costa Mesa Senior Center Corporation Board has proposed a
7,400-square-foot expansion. The new space would make room for more
extensive wellness programs for the city’s senior citizens.
What to expect: The senior center board will present the City Council
with additional information about the expansion project. The council will
discuss the request and give direction on the planning process. The
project is in a preliminary planning stage and continued talks are
expected.
Skateboard park may move forward
The city, for a couple of years, has been talking about a skateboard park
and has earmarked about $250,000 for the design and construction of the
recreation facility.
What to expect: The council is expected to approve a contract with a
Fullerton company to design the Charle Street Skateboard Park. The cost
for the design work would be $39,390.
Target arguments to be heard
A neighbor of the proposed Target store has appealed the Planning
Commission’s approval of the project. Residents near the site, in the
3000 block of Harbor Boulevard, have said the discount superstore would
bring noise and traffic to the area.
What to expect: The council is expected to listen to public testimony on
the issue before making a decision on the project. The staff has
recommended the council uphold the commission’s vote and approve the
Target store.
New cafe could open at South Coast
South Coast Plaza has requested to build a 1,800-square-foot cafe with a
1,000-square-foot outdoor dining area. The project, which would require
an amendment to the master plan, was unanimously approved by the Planning
Commission March 13.
What to expect: The planning department has recommended the City Council
approve the project.
