Film Review

Joli Selten

Most writers will say inspiration is the key to creative living.

Director Judy Kinberg captures the essence of this philosophy in her

feature film, “Who’s Dancing Now,” based on students from the National

Dance Institute in New York. Founded in the 1970s, the institute has

taught thousands of children the lessons of life through dance.

The movie takes the viewer through the experiences of some of the

original children involved with the program. After watching each child

try to conquer the challenges of each dance step, the audience is given a

glimpse into their adult lives through a monologue. Each person tells

their tale of how their lives were affected by the dance studio and

explains the life lessons they learned from the experience.

Whether you were a dancer or a jock or even a brain, every adult learned

their base lessons while they were children. These activities and the

disciplines involved help shape who every adult is today. “Who’s Dancin’

Now” is a good example of how this is done.

* “Who’s Dancin’ Now” screens at 10 a.m. today at the Orange County

Museum of Art.
