INSIDE SCOOP

Resident Eileen Murphy was planning to join other environmentalists to
speak out against development on the Bolsa Chica mesa at a Coastal
Commission hearing scheduled for next month at the Queen Mary in Long
Beach. But, with discussion of the mesa now postponed, she wasn’t sure if
the group would show up.
Then she realized there’s another issue worth fighting about at the
hearing -- an assembly bill that could change coastal zoning. And that
the group would be there to duke it out.
“We’re going to have a little Armada floating around the Queen Mary,” she
said.
ISN’T THAT AGAINST THE LAW?
Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona may be the long arm of the law, but he
is not a tall man. As Carona took the stage as guest speaker at a recent
Fountain Valley Mayor’s Breakfast, he noticed the lectern would have come
up to his chest.
“I’m so short, if I’d known there would be a podium, I wouldn’t have worn
pants,” Carona joked.
He opted not to use the lecture stand during his speech.
FAST AS YOU CAN
Fountain Valley City Council zoomed through its meeting last week in a
speedy 15 minutes, until Mayor Guy Carrozzo’s closing comments about the
Fire Department’s thermal imaging cameras. In a last call for closing
remarks, Councilwoman Laurann Cook had something to point out.
“My comment is that your comments lasted longer than the actual meeting,”
she quipped.
