CdM tops Sunny Hills, 11-7

CORONA DEL MAR - Unbeaten Corona del Mar made it five straight

Wednesday with an 11-7 nonleague boys tennis victory over visiting Sunny

Hills, with some highlights (Brian Morton’s victory over Joseph Kao) and

some lowlights (singles standout Cameron Ball was hobbled with a Charley

horse in his left calf), lending to concern with the Sea Kings’ huge

tournament just two days away.

“Hopefully he’ll be all right,” said CdM Coach Tim Mang. “He’s a tough

kid, and I’m giving my three top players the day off (today, against

visiting Laguna Beach).”

The Sea Kings are hosting their national invitational, a 16-team

tournament, beginning Friday.

Morton was a key player at No. 1 singles for Corona del Mar Wednesday,

sweeping Sunny Hills, including a 6-3 verdict over a highly regarded Kao,

who is listed as one of the best in the nation on the 16s level.
