Van Dyke pitches one-hitter in Diamondback’s 5-1 win

Jon Van Dyke pitched a complete game one-hitter Saturday to lead

the Diamondbacks in a 5-1 victory over the White Sox in Majors Division

action at Huntington Valley Little League.

Van Dyke also added a base hit in a Diamondback offensive attack that

also saw Derek Demun double among two hits, Eddie Clark triple, and Steve

Thompson doubled.

Mike Mendez had the lone hit for the White Sox.

Rangers 6, A’s 5

Matt Bottorf went 2 for 3 with a double, Max Hirsch went 2 for 3, Michael

Rhodes had a two-RBI double, and Ryan Van Herk doubled for the Rangers;

Evan Strand hit the first home run of the season in the Majors Division

at the league’s new Inspiration Field, Curtis Crandell doubled home two

runs, Jordan Marquette doubled and also combined with Shayne Robinson on

the mound for 13 strikeouts for the A’s.

Mariners 5, Angels 2

Lucas Aumiller doubled and winning pitcher Matt McGwire struck out seven

for the Mariners; Joe Byers doubled among two hits, Damion Loukas went 2

for 3, and pitcher Michael Hensley allowed three hits and struck out

seven for the Angels.

MINOR A DIVISION

Mariners 9, Cardinals 9

Justin Draeger went 2 for 3 with a double and Garrett Farnsdale tripled

to lead the Mariner offense; Nick Becker went 3 for 3 with a double, Sam

Olive had three hits, and Tanner Phillips and Cory Caplinger each doubled

among two hits for the Cardinals.

Yankees 5, Rangers 5

Terin Marlatt finished 2 for 3 with a triple and Nick Soresi and Dane

Sierra each had a pair of hits to lead the Yankees; Chris Ottens went 2

for 2 and Travis Camarena doubled for the Rangers.

Indians 6, Mets 3

Pitchers Justin Thompson and Michael Bogard combined for 14 strikeouts,

and Thompson, Clayton Prestridge, Karcher Morris, and Niko Marino each

had a hit to power the Indians; Chase Barnes doubled, both Tommy Higgins

and Kyle Ammons singled, and pitchers Race Parmenter, Barnes, Paul

McBeth, and Chase Barnes allowed just four hits for the Mets.

MINOR B DIVISION

Dodgers 16, Diamondbacks 11

Tanner Sierra went 2 for 3 and Trevor Carberry and Kord Weber each

doubled in a potent Dodgers hitting attack; Thomas Johnson and Cory

Longshore each had two hits for the D-backs.

Marlins 7, Yankees 6

Jullien Herrera finished with a hit and RBI and Michael Chairez, Jimmy

Miller, and Daniel Smith each added an RBI for the Marlins; Drew Baumann

tripled and doubled twice and combined with fellow pitcher Jake Gordon on

a two-hitter for the Yankees.

Cardinals 12, White Sox 8

Matt Reza had an RBI double, both Weston Stephens and Casey Arnold had

RBI singles, and pitchers Chris Emmerson and David Wright combined for

eight strikeouts for the Cards; Alex Lowe doubled among two hits, Jeremy

Carrillo doubled, and Kevin Stickler went 2 for 2 for the White Sox.

HV Cubs 12, Costa Mesa American 2

In interleague action, Ryan Little went 3 for 3 and Rick Marin posted two

hits along with two RBI for the Cubs; Jared Hawkinson and John Galvin

each went 2 for 2 for the Angels.

JUNIOR DIVISION

Indians 5, Mets 2

Indians pitcher Joel Kaluzny allowed no hits while striking out eight in

four innings, reliever Jordan Hargrave gave up three hits and struck out

four in three innings, Hargrave and Rick Eley each had two singles,

Andrew Mozeleski tripled, and both Kaluzny and Luke Hazelwood singled for

the winners; Shea Maglione doubled for the Mets.

Dodgers 10, Mariners 4

Collin Ballester tripled among two hits to lead the Dodgers; Josh Gitsham

doubled and singled for the Mariners.
